Fashion Realities

Editors Letter

My name is Lilly and I am a Student living in Berlin, Germany. My passion with fashion started at the age of 10 when I got to design my own figure skating dress. The little girl created a tie-dye masterpiece of neon colors and rhinestones.

Now my style is characterized by neutral colors and clean lines. As I am currently on the journey towards a Bachelors degree in fashion management, my studies introduced me to a completely new viewpoint of the industry. This was originally why I created Fashion Realities. Intended to introduce you to my way of experiencing fashion.

However due to the development of my personal interest I decided to widen the meaning behind Fashion Realities. I will no longer solely talk about fashion and rather focus on the expression of creativity, spirituality and my way of seeing life itself. All of this to say that every word you read is crafted by my mind, heart and soul.

Allow me to enchant your inner world with my vision of the realm beyond.

"everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise."

- Sylvia Plath

What writing means to me

On some days the head seems to hold this wind, stirring the thoughts around, turning everything upside down - positive to negative in seconds. When I write, the wind disappears, laying the monologue open for me to dissect. Suddenly everything is still, no urge to rush, to change, to repeat, just a quiet mind observing fragments of the mind.

Often people describe me as being highly emotional, which allows me to comprehend even the littlest things in life from a place of deep admiration and gratitude. However, even the smallest blow pushes the admiration over the edge. The extremes of positive and negative, barely balancing each other out. Perhaps coming from a young age or finite experience of life.

Yet, when I write I get to control the seemly uncontrollable. I get to play with the thoughts to recreate perceptions. This is what I want to be known for. As a place someone can visit to quiet their inner wind, to breathe and be grateful for the quietness of the presence.

What fashion means to me

The fashion industry is an industry with so many unique people, which creates art in so many different forms. The garment itself, the pictures and editorials from the photographers, the runway shows.

I adore the performative aspect of fashion to the point that it is inviting me to take part myself. I get to write about it. I get to learn about it. I get to change it.

The history of fashion goes back to before Christ. Back in ancient Rome and ancient Egypt people were showcasing to what level of society they belonged. Fashion has changed so many times during these 2000 years. The trends come and go, cycling meanwhile wrenching the planet from its resources. Through my studies and my future career, I am hoping to work against a phenomenon fueled by the need to be on trend.

This is what fashion means to me. I'm sure the meaning will change over the years as I develop further. For now I will invite you to read about my reasons for adoring an industry of art, balancing  admiration and disaster in an interplay of words.
